While the risk of serious side effects is low, myopathy is the most common side effect of statin use.2
The most common statin-related myopathy in patients is pain in the thighs, calves or both.3

Statins can effectively block the cholesterol the body naturally produces, but they can also reduce natural production of CoQ10, a molecule that is essential for cellular health, especially in tissue with high rates of metabolism, such as the heart, kidney and liver.4
